PEDPASS Gold Award

The success of sport and active lifestyles at Kentisbeare School has been recognised in achieving the Gold standard PEDPASS award.

We are only the second school in the whole of the county to receive the gold award in the 2 years it has been running.

Such is the achievement that none other than Mr Steve Kibble and Mr Jeremy Tudge came to the school to present the award. Mr Kibble is the head of Physical Education across all schools in Devon . He praised the dedication of the staff and above all the attitude of the children who clearly enjoy and take part in healthy, active lifestyles.

Special Assembly

An intrepid group of Kentisbeare Residents recently undertook the challenge of climbing a mountain in the Himalayas.

The group included Andy Palmer who has children in the school and Mike Wilkinson who runs the village post office.

The children were able to follow the progress of the group as they trekked further up the mountain using a satellite tracker.

Upon their return Mike and Andy came into school and gave a presentation about their adventure. The children asked lots of questions and they were clearly fascinated by the whole trip.

The trekkers took a flag made by the children up the mountain and took pictures of themselves holding it, making the whole thing seem very real to the children.

The group raised money for a cancer charity and is part of a series of challenges being undertaken by local GP Neil Rushton.

Forest Schools and Membury visit

Children from Membury, our partnership school, came over to Kentisbeare to take part in forest school activities. Miss Elenor and Mrs P worked with the children in the Glade and the tepee. Kentisbeare children will in return travel to Membury to use their own swimming pool!

Governor of the year

One of our most experienced Governors, Alan Mugleston, was recently nominated as ‘Governor of the Year' at the South West Teaching Awards.

Alan was awarded a Commendation in this category and was praised by the judges for his efforts. Alan has overseen many changes during his time with us.

His own children left the school a long time ago but he has continued on the governing body and took his turn as chairman for a number of years.
