“History is about the people who lived in the past. In
many ways History is the peoples memory. The way we live today is
because of the people and events of yesterday.”
We aim to develop a sense of time (chronology) recognising that
some things change and some things stay the same, investigate how
and why events happen and how they may be linked, explore the use
of a variety of sources to find out about the past, (local people,
local buildings, Parish Church records, etc.) and provide opportunities
to study a variety of kinds of history – local, national,
foreign – from ancient civilisations to recent times.

Geography
explores the relationships between the Earth and its peoples through
the study of place, space and environment. It creates a unique
bridge between the humanities and the natural sciences and it
has a distinctive role in the curriculum. We
aim to stimulate pupils’ interest in and wonder at their
surroundings; increase pupils’ knowledge and understanding
of processes which influence the development of areas and landscapes,
e.g. the tropical rain forest areas and desert landscapes and
how they are shaped by physical, economic and social factors and
give pupils’ real contexts for investigating their environment,
e.g. fieldwork in local areas of geographical significance like
Dartmoor.
