Buildings and Grounds

After many years of waiting, the final phase of the school upgrade has now been completed. Phase 1 was completed in 1997, giving 2 new classrooms and a resources area.

The final phase began with the demolition of 2 temporary classrooms (erected in 1948 and 1963) in July 2001 and was completed in April 2002. It was officially opened on 31st May 2002. This gave a further 3 new classrooms, inside toilets, a separate secure playground for Key Stage 1 children and, eventually, landscaping and improved outside play facilities.

The original character of the school is maintained through the retention of the Victorian frontage.

The school hall is being refurbished for Key Stage 1 PE and has a new servery for school meals. There is a library, a children’s cookery area, a computer area, a music practise room and space for individual / small group tuition.

The School has beautiful grounds, an impressive playing field, a quiet garden, living willow domes and a fenced stream. The field, which was purchased entirely by the parents several years ago, is joined to the school by a short bridge. The children have also benefited from the new large tarmac playground.

The pictorial story of the construction of the school upgrade is shown on the phase 2 upgrade page.

An new outdoor adventure play trail was installed in Summer 2002, supported by the generosity of the KSA. This includes full safety surfacing over the whole play area, making it an excellent all-weather facility.

Tepee

The tepee now has a new home thanks to our friendly neighbour and governor Neil Woofenden.

After spending a year on the damp school field it is now housed on the hillside behind the school in a specially levelled platform.

It is a short trek up to the top but it is worth the effort as the views are amazing. It has already been used for story telling and circle time activities and much more is planned for the summer months.

As you can see from the pictures the staff risked life and limb to put up the tepee under the expert supervision of Alan from the Escot wildlife park.
